Meet the Team
Alastair Mitchell (Ali)
Ali is a 3x SaaS founder, his most recent being as CEO & Co-founder of Huddle, the Enterprise SaaS collaboration platform which he grew to 170 people across 4 offices, raising $70m from top-tier US & European VC’s in the process. These included his now partner at Singular, Ben, who was his first institutional investor! Before Huddle, Ali was on the leadership team of Dunnhumby, the global leaders in Loyalty Programs & Customer Data Analytics, growing their SaaS offering from zero to $40m revenues in 4 years.
Ali is a passionate supporter of early-stage founders and is an investor, advisor & board member for a number of exciting European SaaS businesses, with several exits to-date. “There’s nothing more exciting than helping a company figure out true-product-market fit and then seeing them go from hard-won linearity to almost effortless exponential growth as they lock on and drive scale, building an amazing team and investors around them in the process”.
Based in San Francisco, Ali is responsible for Singular’s SaaS, Data & Health-tech strategy and supporting portfolio companies to figure out and execute their US expansion.
Ali lives in Marin with his young family, right on San Francisco bay, and loves playing around with anything that moves – on water or on road – preferably as fast as possible! His favorite quote? “Do or do not, there is no try”. (Yoda, 1980)
Ben is a US/UK tech investment banker (Broadview Jefferies) turned VC (Eden Ventures) who has spent over 20 years helping companies grow and exit internationally. He is an investor in leading European companies such as Acunu (sold to Apple), New Voice Media (backed by Salesforce.com), UberVu (acquired by Hootsuite) and Huddle (where he met Ali). As an adviser, he was involved in tech success stories such as Kelkoo (acquired by Yahoo!), World of Warcraft (acquired by Vivendi) Promethean and Iris Software.
Based in London, Ben leads Singular’s investment operations and is responsible for our strategy in Infrastructure, fintech and supporting portfolio companies on financing & exit strategies.
Ben lives in Chalfont St Giles, on the outskirts of London, with his wife, daughter and son. Like Ali, racing cars and yachts play a part. His favourite quote? Easy. “But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” (Rocky Balboa, 1976)
